    REMEMBERING THE SNEAKERS

  • The Original Players

The Sneakers were a Kansas City hobby/party band that played together in one form or another for over 20 years. Over those years, The Sneakers had several configurations ranging from 7 to 4 members. Some played in The Furniture Guys, The Babaloos and Not The Original Artists before forming The Sneakers. The original seven played together for many years before slimming down to just four in Sneakers 2.0.Here are the original Sneakers...and yes, the pics suck. But nobody had camera phones back then.

    Tim Cook

    Vocal Dude

     Scott

Joined after the Furniture Guys and Babaloos. Debuted with Not The Original Artists, at Leawoodstock.

    Jonathan Ive

    Drummer Dude

    Dave

Played with the group before Sneakers, recruited Scott after a few drunken basement accapella nights.

    Lead Dude

    Mark

Joined same time as Scott, right before Greg bought more earplugs.

    Bass Dude

    Greg

Sneakers got him out from behind the sound board and out front where he couldn't hide. All the time.

    Rhythm Dude

    Mitch

The original, in more ways than one. Singer, guitarist, drum beater.

    Vocal Dudette

    Peggy

    Organ Dude

    Dave

Laid down those Motown B3 sounds, along with steel rails so we could push it out of his basement.

  • The Original Aluminum Wheels Concert

The Sneakers very first gig was at Arrowhead Stadium. The week before, the Rolling Stones had played the venue during their Steel Wheels tour. So, technically, The Stones opened for us!

    ALUMINUM WHEELS VIDEO

  • We played a holiday party for Mark's employer, Henry Wurst. Logan announced us as The Mark Gearon Marching Band, and a few Wurst employees joined us on stage throughout the night. Nothing like helping Mark suck up to his employer!

Here are a few selections from that gig.

  • Live At The Limit!

The Sneakers (2.0) often played The Daily Limit in Red Bridge, gathering good friends and making new ones. There were some crazy nights, as evidenced by the fact that we set the record for bar sales! This is a selection of 16 songs from one of those nights, plus two bonus tracks we laid down at a practice.

  • The Basement Tape

Sneakers 2.0 practiced in several basements, but mostly Greg's. One session, we decided for some reason to record a few songs. Mark swears it was from two mics and a crappy cassette deck. I say it was a board feed to a crappy cassette deck. Just as I never won the discussion about guitar volume, this will go undecided. The final track is a rewrite Logan did for his sales force...legendary among that group but not heard for 10-15 years. Until I turned up this lost tape.

  • Three chords & a million memories

On Nov. 14, 2015, The Sneakers came back together for a most-excellent adventure: a one-night-only reunion, 25 years after our first gig. The Local Tap was packed, the crowd was rocking, and the boys had a blast.

Thanks to all who joined us!

  • What do you remember?

Drop us an email and let us know what you remember about a night with The Sneakers. Granted, most of you won't remember many of those nights...the bar was always busy. But try. And if you have photos, send them along. Apparently, our wives didn't think us very photogenic and this was way before selfies.
